Hybrid Making

Fab Lab Residency, 2025

This process integrates craft with computational design through the fusion of handwoven reed and custom 3D-printed support rings. The forms explore structure and material relationships within fiber vessels, leveraging digital fabrication to expand the possibilities of basketry. Round and flat reed, dyed with cochineal and milk paint, introduces a tactile richness. Over-under and twill weave patterns establish pattern and material integrity. As light passes through the woven structure, it casts shifting shadows that animate the form. By , the work positions basketry as a site for hybrid making and new form-finding.
